About My Students

I have taught special needs students with downs syndrome, autism ADHD, anxiety and legally blind.

Most students have an interest in music and the arts. I have taught hundreds of students, the majority of which have joined the school band and play a second instrument which comes easy to them. Many of my students enter talent and variety shows, join theater and pursue voice lessons to enhance their piano experience. If I am available, I often attend talent and variety shows when my students perform. Two of my students applied and were chosen for the single position of jazz pianist in their respective schools. Some adults that come to piano lessons start from the beginning, and some adults continue where they left off as children.

Autism and Piano

Piano lessons can be incredibly beneficial with individuals with autism. Lessons provide a structured environment that helps with sensory integration, fine motor skills development, emotional regulation and cognitive skills while offering an outlet for creative expression and sense of accomplishment through achieving music goals.
Three out of four of the autistic students were pitch perfect. They could stand several feet away with their back toward the piano and identify any note played with 100% accuracy.
